Centrifugal Disc Finishing Tip 1. Regularly Check That You Have Enough Media In Your Machine
, roslerusa - Torna alla panoramica
As most media (ceramic and/or plastic) wear, the level in your machine can drop significantly over time. As mass finishing processes work by covering the part with the media and the media moving over the edges to create the deburring, radiusing, etc… it is important a ratio of media : parts is retained.
Should the level of media drop then your finish could be affected, your process time extended and in high energy centrifugal disk machines the parts are likely to contact each other more often and more aggressively. Without sufficient media to envelop the parts that contact could lead to undesirable impingement marks.

When a process is first developed an ideal loading of parts will be determined and a full load (parts and media) should fill the process bowl so that when the machine is running at full speed the media and parts should make a ‘torroidal’ action and the centre disk (or cone – depending upon your machine design) will be exposed (as per the picture). If your media level is too low you will see more than the centre disk (cone) and with too much media this will be obscured. Too much media compromises the ‘torroidal’ action and the process. At best process times will extend – more typical though is that you will not achieve the desired finish.
